Frequently Asked Questions

We have included a series of frequently asked questions to help you understand the basics about whistleblowing as a bank staff member. To view the answer, simply click on the question. If there are any questions you have that are not included below, please feel free to get in touch.

We will personally guarantee that the identity of people who contact BankConfidential will not be divulged to any third party without, unless we have the express permission of the whistle blower.

You can be sure we will respect confidences because as bank and financial services whistleblowers ourselves we understand the risks involved in speaking up about wrong practices. BankConfidential works by the principle that sources always remain confidential unless otherwise agreed.

BankConfidential would not necessarily have to speak to a whistleblower, everything can be done in writing. If BankConfidential does need to speak to the person to get further details, particularly in a case where the information is provided to a newspaper or other media outlet, confidentiality and anonymity agreements can be drawn up and supplied where necessary.

There is always a risk that someone can be identified when whistleblowing but we can confirm that we would not disclose identities unless that has been requested and we have that agreement in writing.

There are some obvious precautions which we suspect you already will have considered.

Our contact form gives you the option of not divulging your name, which gives you a further safeguard of anonymity. When you call your number can be withheld and if you email to contact us first set up an anonymous email address that would not link to you or your property address. If you are worried about links via IP addresses, consider using an internet café or similar.

Look into and consider the option of a non-internet connected mobile ‘burner phone’, these are not contracted to you personally and the number changes when you replace the sim and top up the credit, it’s very difficult for anyone to connect these the mobiles to an individual or hack the calls.

If you wish to provide us with your contact details we can use these methods of communication along with encrypted mobile Apps such as Whats App and Signal to protect you form any hacking if at all possible.

If you are happy for us to move forward, the information you provide will be checked for accuracy and truthfulness. The inquiries we make to establish that the ‘whistleblow’ is authentic are crucial to whether the situation can be exposed in the press.

For that reason, it is important that we have a way of contacting you in case you can help us further, perhaps by supplying documents. If of course, if you don’t want to be contacted or further involved, then you can also e-mail or telephone us anonymously.

Once the truthfulness of the PIDA disclosures has been established, we will proceed according to your instructions and decisions you make following advice from Bank Confidential.

If you want to whistleblow by making use of our experts, media and legal strategies, it helps greatly if you have proof that what you are saying is correct and can be proved.

The proof you need to ensure your whistleblowing exercise is effective could be in the form of documents; (statements to an employment tribunal, court statements or affidavits for instance.)

Other forms of proof could be letters, faxes, e-mails, video, or photographs.

We have many contacts within expert law firms and at leading Barristers Chambers, we can discuss your legal needs and make introductions where required for legal support without any media involvement. We will only introduce whistleblowers to press and media contacts if we have guaranteed assurances that they will remain anonymous.
